Bernie Mac, who starred in 'Bad Santa' with Thornton, died at the age 50 when he developed pneumonia that came from seemingly nowhere.

John Ritter, who also starred in 'Bad Santa' with Thornton, died at 54. His illness was caused by an undiagnosed congenital heart defect, which it appeared no one had anticipated.
